Several years ago I had the pleasure of training to be a life coach for Connie Sokol and her LifeChange organization. With Connie’s help to focus, I accomplished some incredible things. And then I got distracted – okay those of you who know me very well are laughing your guts out at that turn of phrase.
Well a few weeks ago, I got a notice that Connie was launching her new book “Faithful, Fit and Fabulous.” I went to the book launch and it was wonderful seeing Connie and several of the LifeChange coaches again. And I took the book home and set it aside and it ate at me that it was sitting there unread. So over the weekend I started it and it brought back all my LifeChange experiences and reminded me that I’m capable of so much more, I just need to find my center again and get doing. That’s what Connie’s book did for me. Starting this morning, I am back to setting an over-riding goal for the week and working on it as a priority that week.
I’ll still have daily to do lists but the big rock for the week, the thing I do first will be my weekly goal and the best part is after the goal is achieved, I get a reward. Planning the reward in advance gives an added incentive to achieve the goal and to reach just a little farther.
With the new book and program, the first goal area to work on is tapping back into your spiritual base. Connie writes from an LDS perspective and the book is geared to her belief system. I realize that many of my friends are spiritual but not religious. I have found truth in many places and would hope that others are open minded enough to consider and apply the good principles they find while discarding what they don’t believe in. So, back to the point, the book is designed to be read a chapter a week and the first is on developing holy habits. Basically much more can be accomplished when tapping into help from a higher power. This first week, I’m working on a goal to create a morning devotional time for myself. As the book suggests – I want to arise early, exercise, be clean, pray, and ponder on an uplifting thought, taking time to listen for inspiration from higher sources. I’m starting this morning and that is my over-riding goal for this week. I still haven’t decided on the reward but I know that just doing this activity will result in a reward of peace, power and confidence in my own abilities.
